The Life and Times of Tabitha Gilman Tenney

  • Exeter Town Hall 9 Front Street Exeter, NH, 03833 (map)

Exeter native Tabitha Gilman Tenney, an early American novelist, worried that frivolous romantic novels encouraged excessive romanticism in young women. A sober and solemn person, Tenney wrote Female Quixotism— it seemed to be just such a romance, only to reveal itself as a cautionary tale with a tragic ending. Join EHS curator, Barbara Rimkunas, as we explore the world of Tabitha Gilman Tenney.
