The family ordered it in large quantities and drank it daily as, unlike tea, the British did not impose a tax on chocolate. Come find out how the Washingtons and others prepared and enjoyed their chocolate. In person, you will have a chance to taste Martha’s favorite chocolate beverage. Enna will talk about the history of chocolate in the colonies, and its specific connections to the Washingtons, leaving some time for your culinary questions.
